ANTAL

Released in 2004, MF Doom's MM..Food has since been recognized as a hip-hop classic album full of inventive production, brilliant wordplay and unique themes. Celebrated for its seamless blend of humor, wit and social commentary, the album transports the listener into a bizarre world of food metaphors and paints a bitterly comedic portrait of a life blighted by vice, violence and jealousy. A brilliant and, at the time, novel concept that gave Doom plenty of scope to explore the album's themes.

Over the course of MM..Food, Doom embeds complex ideas into seemingly simple narratives. Album opener "Beef Rapp" is a layered metaphor that reminds the listener of the dangers associated with glamorizing conflict, especially in rap. "Hoe Cakes" borrows its name from the sweet cornmeal cakes filled with hot water that he uses as a symbol to rhyme about indulgence and excess. With the Madlib-produced "One Beer," Doom continues the motif to fold in layers of profundity about escapism and ego, while the popular "Rapp Snitch Knishes" criticizes the sales discrimination and contradictory behaviors of some rappers.

Overall, MM..Food is both a social commentary and a piece of social satire that showcases MF Doom's ability to combine serious themes with his unique, playful lyrical style. In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, MM..Food has been repackaged with all new artwork by Sam Rodriguez!
