Mangova, Plamena: Lettres Intimes (CD)

The works of the symbiotically linked composer trio Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms in this recording are of a highly private nature, downright "intimate letters" in two respects. For in these musical "messages" the correspondence of tones and letters in the notation for keys common in the German-speaking world allowed Clara and Robert, who always composed for each other, to play with secret messages. And Brahms, too, sometimes made the ciphers of the Schumann couple his own. The Bulgarian pianist Plamena Mangova studied at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with the legendary Dmitri Bashkirov and with Abdel-Rahman El Bacha at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium. She also received valuable artistic impulses from Leon Fleisher, Rosalyn Tureck, Menahem Pressler, Alicia de Larrocha and András Schiff.
